 Sara Pickard is the Partners in Politcs Officer for Mencap Cymru, and in May 2008 she was elected as a Community Councillor in Pentyrch, near Cardiff. Congratulations Sara!
Being the Partners in Politcs Officer for Mencap Cymru, understanding that democracy affects every aspect of our lives; this inspired me to become a community councillor.
As I am a young person with a learning disability I felt that I needed to have a say, an opportunity to get my own opinions across about Pentyrch.
I'm really proud of where I live and I am very active in my community I want to give back what I've enjoyed about living here.
Everyone should be represented at all levels of government me being a councillor is a small step to challenging peoples perceptions about disabilities, moving forward and making a difference.
I have already attended one meeting and as this was my first time I was a bit nervous. I am looking forward to attending more meetings and becoming even more confident and able to contribute my views in the meetings. |
