Sandra Spratt has recently been appointed Children and Young People's Disability and Family Development Officer based at Swansea Council for Voluntary Service. The post is funded via Cymorth the Children and Youth Support Fund and is initially for one year.
Her role is to provide a support and development service for children with disabilities and their families, ensuring that their needs are met.
She is currently working on setting up a parent/carer forum for parents and carers of children/young people who have a disability (0 to 19 years of age and covering all disabilities). The parent/carer forum will provide an opportunity to share information, exchange ideas, identify gaps in provision, influence key decisions locally, campaign for better services and support one another.
This is an exciting and important opportunity for parents and carers to influence the future provision of services, so if you are interested please contact Sandra.
Her role will also be focusing on the childcare needs for children and young people with disabilities, identifying gaps in provision and barriers which prevent parents accessing childcare and providing feedback about issues and promoting emerging new initiatives.
Another area of Sandra's role is looking at the provision of information provided to children/young people and their families to ensure that they are kept fully informed through the various transitions and stages of childhood and teenage/young adult life.
