Enough Money to Live On...?The Disabled Children Matter Wales campaign wants disabled children and young people in Wales to have enough money to live on.

Childcare Affordability Pilot Scheme

On the 28 January 2009, the UK Government announced a childcare affordability pilot scheme that will pay an increased level of working tax credit to parents of disabled children. The pilot will run in London and is set out in Next Steps for Early Learning and Childcare Building on the 10-Year Strategy. The strategy says:

'For families with a disabled or severely disabled child across London we will continue to pay 80 percent of their costs through the tax credits childcare element, but we will raise the maximum limits for all eligible low income families in London with a disabled child to £215 per week, and for families with a severely disabled child even further to £300 per week. These limits will be further increased if childcare costs are claimed for more than one child.'

Winter Fuel Payment

In his Pre-Budget Report in November 2008, Chancellor Alistair Darling announced a one off additional payment of £60 to be paid to disabled children and families in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Carers Allowance in January 2009. This payment is in addition to the usual £10 Christmas bonus.
